With Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl already strengthening our attacking options so far this summer with deals secured for Che Adams and Moussa Djenepo, reports in Italy last week suggested we had made an unsuccessful bid for AC Milan striker Andre Silva.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via the Daily Echo the original speculation had suggested that we’d made a loan offer with a view to buying the 23-year-old on a permanent basis next summer, but according to the Echo’s sources no approaches have been made, and nor will they be as we don’t have an interest in the player.

Having already secured Adams and Djenepo, as well as the loan for Danny Ings becoming permanent this month, it doesn’t make much sense that we’d be after another striker, even if Silva’s statistics look pretty impressive.

The Echo state as much themselves and suggest that Southampton’s priority now is a defensive capture to shore up the heart of defence.
